I travel quite a bit. For fun. And for work.

A few months ago I was at the airport and after the flight I felt hungry.

Yes I loathe the atrocious flight food that I still wonder how the airhostesses serve with a smile. I detest the flight sandwich & "daal chawal" as much as I abhor local local trains.

Anyways, after landing, I went to a cafe. I made a few phone calls while enjoying the stunning sunset while they were preparing the food.

The cold coffee with amazing. And the pasta! Let me tell you! The pasta was mouthwatering. I asked the chef to add a few scrambled eggs to the pasta, which he happily did. The customization made me extra happy because I LOOOOVE scrambled eggs as you know by now. Here's a photo:

And that brings me to the lesson of the day.

If you want to TRULY make your audience happy about your speech or presentation, you must learn to CUSTOMIZE your presentation.

It's good to know your subject well. But it's better to PERSONALIZE it so the audience (or customer) feels GREAT and comes back again! (In this case, the customer writes about the experience in a daily email that goes out to tens of thousands of corporate professionals & entrepreneurs).

CUSTOMIZE the opening of your talk.

CUSTOMIZE the body of your presentation.

CUSTOMIZE the ending to leave the audience on a high.

They should feel: "WOW- I feel it was made JUST for me!"
